Assassin's Creed

Assassin’s Creed is a popular video game franchise known for its historical settings, immersive gameplay, and intricate narratives. However, like any other long-running series, it has also faced criticism from fans. While opinions may vary, here are some common reasons why fans have expressed dislike towards certain Assassin’s Creed games:

  • 1. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
  • 2. Lack of commitment to missions
  • 3. So much grinding
  • 4. Unnecessary spectacles
  • 5. Not identical to Assassin’s Creed

1. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Games

Probably the most despised AC game available? Well, I’m not entirely certain, but it appears that the majority of fans leave the game relatively quickly after entering. The majority of critics assert that AC Odyssey does not feel like an Assassin’s Creed game. The primary plot is easily overshadowed by all the RPG elements and side quests.

Because you have so many side missions to complete, which have little to no connection to the main storyline, you may forget about the main plot from time to time. While we’re discussing irrelevant side missions, another AC game will likely come to mind. Yes, it is AC Valhalla, which contains a mission in the main plot that makes the game tedious to play and contributes nothing to the main plot.

2. Lack of commitment to missions

Assassin’s Creed Games

Back in the day, Assassin’s Creed games featured intricate stories, challenging missions, and overall enjoyable gameplay, giving players a sense of accomplishment and attachment to the game’s main plot. Come AC Origins, AC Odyssey, and AC Valhalla, the game is so pervasive that players often feel detached from the game’s primary narrative.

Take, for instance, AC Odyssey, where the never-ending quest to upgrade your armor and weapons leaves little room to enjoy the main story. Furthermore, in order to advance to the next mission, you must not only upgrade (which is acceptable) but also complete multiple side missions. Due to these factors, one is likely to quickly lose interest in the game’s story.

3. So much grinding

In AC games such as Odyssey, Valhalla, and Origins, there are a number of upgrades to armor and weapons. However, it does require a great deal of effort and labor. At some point, it becomes quite frustrating for players to grind for hours to obtain minor upgrades to their armor and weapons.

Additionally, it becomes impossible for players to enjoy and complete the game’s primary story missions simply. Because, once more, you only need to complete those side missions that are unrelated to the game’s main plot.

4. Unnecessary spectacles

Assassin’s Creed Games

Another irritant for Assassin’s Creed fans is that the most recent AC games have grown too large. Instead of choosing to create a good 25-30 hour game that engages players at every plot point, AC games have become increasingly tedious.

The ideal illustration of this are AC Odyssey and AC Valhall. If you’re only interested in completing the main story in AC Odyssey, it will take you approximately 45 hours to do so. To complete the entire game, players should anticipate a total of approximately 140 hours. AC Valhalla is even longer than Odyssey, clocking in at 40 hours to complete the main story alone.

5. Not identical to Assassin’s Creed

Over time, Assassin’s Creed has earned a great deal of disdain from its player base, particularly as the series has evolved into the modern mess that it is. Initially, the stories have become increasingly dull. Take, for instance, AC Black Flag, which was likely the last AC game to feature a great story and outstanding characters who shone throughout the entire game. However, games such as AC Odyssey and Origins did not have the same effect on the players.

The new Assassin’s Creed game differs from its predecessors in that it does not feature stealth gameplay. The older AC games had fluid stealth gameplay, and players were required to eliminate secondary targets before moving on to the main objective. Being an assassin is all about keeping a low profile and avoiding combat with your foes; stealth gameplay is centered on this concept. In AC Odyssey, however, Ubisoft forgot they were making an assassination game. AC Odyssey is the antithesis of what a stealth game should be. In addition, AC Valhall elevated the situation to a higher level.

It’s important to note that these criticisms do not apply to every Assassin’s Creed game or to every fan of the series. Different entries in the franchise have their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and opinions can vary widely among players. Ultimately, each individual’s perspective on the Assassin’s Creed games will depend on personal preferences and experiences.

What have you disliked the most?

In addition, some AC fans have favored the older games, and flat-out rejected the newer ones. In addition to the aforementioned factors, the series may have become repetitive. Recent AC games utilise the same RPG formula as their predecessor. In the more recent Assassin’s Creed games, the element that made players feel like they were playing as assassins is missing.

The combat has become monotonous, and some missions are identical, adding to the frustration of the fans. Moreover, we believe the series has lost its ability to make players feel like they’re playing an assassin, killing someone in broad daylight, and fleeing the scene of the crime in recent AC games. Instead, you must wait for the target to approach before making your move.

In the end, this may seem like a joke to some; however, for others, all of these points undermine the assassin element of the AC games. In spite of this, the AC series has a great deal of untapped potential, which Ubisoft can use to increase fan appreciation for the game by going far beyond merely scratching the surface.
