AIs are now making art, and people are spending a lot of time on the internet trying to figure out the best ways to tell them what to do so they can make the right pictures, or sometimes the wrong ones. Does that sound like fun? One well-known AI tool is Midjourney, which lets users make dreamy scenes and characters with just a few words.
We have good news for you if you want to try out Midjourney: it’s free to sign up, and the AI creator can be used right away. Before you use it for the first time, read this.
How to start using Midjourney
Step 1: Make sure you know how to log in to Discord. There is now a specific site, but only people who have been invited can use it. Like most of us, Midjourney only works on Discord, so you’ll need an account there to use it. You are also free to join Discord if you still need to do so.
Step 2: Go to the Midjourney page. Pick Join the test if you want to. This will take you straight to a Discord invite.
Step 3: Accept Midjourney’s Discord invite. Pick to Keep going to Discord.
Step 4: The Discord app will open on its own. When it does, click on the leave menu button, which looks like a ship.
Step 5: Look for the Newcomer rooms in the Midjourney channels. There are usually a lot of new player rooms open, with names like “newbies-108.” You can start with any of these.
Step 6: Making AI art is now within your reach. Remember that there is a limit to the amount of prompts you can select during the free trial before you begin. You can make about 25 pictures for free. You’ll need to buy a full membership to keep going after that. Take some time to think about what you want to make on Midjourney if you don’t want to spend any money. Type “/help” to get a list of tips that you can look through.
Step 7: Type “/imagine” in the chat for your newbie’s room when you’re ready. This will make a field appear where you can type the picture description. When you describe something, the more specific you can be, the better the AI will be able to do. Spend some time describing what you want, and if you have a specific style in mind, mention it. You should follow the rules here, but as long as you keep things clean, you shouldn’t have to worry about anything.
Press Enter to send your prompt when you’re done.
Step 8: Allow Midjourney one minute to make your pictures. Based on what you say, the AI will usually make a few different forms. You now have several choices for how to move forward.
Below the pictures, you’ll see a group of U and V buttons with the numbers 1 through 4 written on them. The numbers match the four pictures that Midjourney made. If you choose U, that picture will be blown up to a bigger, more precise size. If you choose V, a brand-new picture will be made from the current image you choose. There is also a button on the side that you can click to get a new set of pictures. Remember that each of these options will use up some of your free tips, so make sure you really want to move forward before you do so.
Step 9: You’ll see that you still have more ways to change a picture once you’ve looked at it. *Vary: This button makes four more pictures that look a bit like the picture you chose. When you click “Zoom Out,” the image will get smaller and more images will appear around it depending on its context. * Arrows: This will “pan” the picture and add context-based images to areas that were just revealed. *The heart icon will mark a picture as a favourite, making it easier to find in your Midjourney Gallery. *Web—This option lets you open the picture right in your Midjourney Gallery.
Step 10: If you want to use Midjourney a lot, go to any bot channel in Midjourney’s Discord and type “/subscribe.” This makes a link that you can use to pay for a contract. If you want to use Midjourney for a long time, you should also read the manual. It has more directions and tips on how to make images.
