Your password is the first line of defense for your Windows 11 PC. It keeps other people from accessing your files and important information. However, there are times when you might want to delete a Windows login password.
Another time this might apply is when you share a PC with someone else and don’t have anything private on it. Removing the password can also make it faster to log in to your PC, but we don’t suggest it.
If you’re still unsure if you need that extra security, here’s how to remove your Windows 11 login password.
Some notes
There are some essential things we want you to remember before we begin. It’s not easy to change your login or PIN if you’ve used a Microsoft account to log in to your Windows 11 PC. This is to keep things safe. If you have a Microsoft account, you’ll always need to use a password. If you made an account locally or “offline,” Microsoft terms it, you can only delete the password for that account.
We do recommend that you either buy a PC that already has Windows Hello built-in or set it up after you buy it if you can. An infrared webcam on these PCs can scan your face, or you can use your fingerprint to log in. Outside of Windows Hello, you can also buy cameras and fingerprint readers.
Since you won’t have to write anything, this effectively eliminates your login password or PIN. It also makes your PC safer because someone is less likely to guess your password and get in.
Getting rid of the Windows 11 login password
You can remove the login password from a private (offline) account on a Windows 11 PC by following these steps. For safety reasons, these steps will not work with a Microsoft account.
Step 1: Click on the button that looks like a gear. This will bring up the Start Menu.
Step 2: From the list on the left side of the Settings app, select Accounts and click on Sign-in.
Step 3: Click on Password under “Ways to Sign In.”
Step 4: Under “Password,” click the “Change” button.
Step 5: Enter your present password and click “Next.”
Step 6: Click Finish and leave the rest of the screen open.
Step 7: Get rid of the Settings app. Your login password has been taken away.
Because your password has been taken away, you will not need to enter it again on the Windows 11 login screen. When you turn on your PC, you should already be logged in. You can also click on your picture to sign in if you’re sharing your PC.
Still, it’s only safe to use Windows 11 with a password. Other people can get to your files. People who want to harm you can also use your account to get to other people’s files if your account has management rights. A strong password or Windows Hello is the best way to log in.
