Learning how to stop text messages is essential, whether it’s from spam or an ex who won’t let you say “no” anymore. The process is faster and easier than you think, whether you have an iPhone or an Android phone.
Blocking text messages (and even unwanted phone calls) is simple, and we’ll teach you how. It doesn’t matter what kind of phone you have.
Blocking text messages on iPhone
On iOS, you may quickly and easily block texts using the Messages app.
Step 1: Blocking a contact is to access their message history.
Step 2: Locate the person’s profile picture or name at the top of the message and click on it.
Step 3: Tap Info.
Step 4: Select Don’t answer this call.
Blocking iPhone texts from contacts
To stop texts from known people, you can also add them to the “Blocked” list. Your choice between this method and the one above won’t really matter; either way, you’ll stop not only messages but also calls and FaceTime calls. You won’t have to go to the Phone or FaceTime apps to stop the same person.
Step 1: Locate Messages at the very bottom of the list in the Settings app.
Step 2: Scroll down and pick “Blocked contacts.”
Step 3: Click on “Add new.” Pick out the person you want to block. You can only add one contact at a time. Press the minus sign next to the name of the person you want to delete in the top right corner. This will remove the contact.
Blocking iPhone texts from unknown numbers
You can’t just block unknown or private numbers like you can block known friends, which is a shame. But you can sort them out and keep the people you know from seeing them. Messages will have a new “Unknown Senders” tab, but no notifications. It’s a good compromise but could be better.
Step 1: To access Messages, launch the Settings app and navigate to the bottom.

How to report iPhone text messages as spam
Unwanted iMessages and spam can also be reported. An iMessage from an unknown sender will contain a “Report junk” link.Click on the link to send Apple the sender’s information and message. The business should deal with the contact and finally make it so that the person or bot can’t message you again.
[email protected] is another way to get in touch with Apple. Remember that you’ll need a picture of the message, the email address or phone number of the person who sent it, and the date and time you got it.
If you get an SMS or MMS message that you don’t want, you can always tell your company about it. For instance, AT&T says to send the scam message to 7726 (“SPAM” in phoneword). When the carrier gets the message, they will read it.
Blocking text messages on Android
The Google Messages app is the best way to block text messages on Android. Messages is available for download on the Google Play Store and may be used on any Android phone. This is the most convenient option because it is already included in many phones.
Step 1: Open your messages.
Step 2: Hold down a letter from the person you want to block.
Step 3: Find the three dots in the pop-up menu and click them.
Step 4: Press the Block button.
Step 5: You can also click the three dots in the top right corner of the message after letting it open.
Step 6: Pick out the details.
Step 7: Click on Block and report scams.
When you use a different chat app, you’ll need to do something different to block people. They do, however, tend to follow the same trend. Most of the time, you’ll need to open your Messages app. From there, you should be able to see a three-dot menu. Settings are in that menu. You can also pick out a message and look for a way to block it. Your results may be different, but that gives you a good idea of where to look.
