The use of AI has grown a lot in the last few years, and it’s now even on our phones. Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 line has Galaxy AI, a set of powerful AI-powered tools that can help you live a better life. These tools include photo-editing tools.
Some people don’t like AI photo editing, but the S24’s AI photo editing tools are well done and can help you get closer to perfection. They’re also simple to use. You can get the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Here’s how to get the most out of their AI photo editing tools.
Keep in mind that you can only change photos with Galaxy AI in Samsung’s Gallery app and not in Google Photos. That also means that these tools can only be used on pictures that are in the Gallery app. These photos could be from your old Galaxy phone that you restored or the ones that you just took.
How to use Edit Suggestions on the Galaxy S24
After taking a picture, we might think we caught the perfect moment, but there may be something that could be better, or we may think it could use some editing. What can you do to improve the picture, though? Sometimes, you might need to figure out what to do next. That’s when Edit Suggestions can help.
Edit Suggestions are hard to find and not very clear. Feel free to follow these steps to edit suggestions on your Samsung Galaxy S24.
- Launch Picture Gallery on your Samsung Galaxy S24.
- Open the picture you want to change and choose it.
- Click on the icons that look like an “i” in a circle.
- After Galaxy AI looks at your picture, it will tell you how to make it better. These will show up on top of the photo’s information.
- What Edit Suggestions does will depend on the picture. You can choose Remaster, Erase shadows, or Erase reflections.
- Choose the Edit Suggestion you want and then follow the on-screen directions. For example, you may need to draw or tap on things in the picture or move a slider bar.
That’s the end of it! All S24 models can make edit suggestions locally on the device, so they don’t need any internet or data link.
How to use Generative Edit on the Galaxy S24
The other AI picture editor is called Generative Edit. You can use this to move or remove things from a picture and then use generative AI to fill in the blanks. The picture can also be straightened or skewed, and generative AI can then fill in the missing background. How it works:
- On your Samsung Galaxy S24, open the Gallery app.
- Open the picture you want to change and choose it.
- Click on the pencil-shaped Edit button.
- Click on the blue circle with three stars that look like a generator.
- Draw a circle around an object you want to get rid of with your finger. If you mess up, press “Deselect” to start over.
- Touch and hold on to the object you want to move to move it to a different part of the picture. To get rid of the object, choose Remove (the eraser sign). If you want to move that item back to where it was before, you can press the “Return” key.
- Choose the Adjust tool at the bottom of the picture that needs to be straightened.
- Once you’ve made the changes you want, click Generate. Then, Galaxy AI will add backgrounds where ones are missing and fix items that have been moved.
- Want to see how this new picture compares to the old one? Press and hold the View Original button.
- Click “Done,” and then click “Save as copy.” There will be a label for Generative Edit on any pictures saved this way.
Because Generative Edit works in the cloud instead of Edit Suggestions, you’ll need to be connected to the internet for it to work. Also, it takes longer to process changes, especially if you make a lot of them, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see the final result right away.
Examples of what the Galaxy S24’s AI photo editing can do
We used some of the pictures we’ve already taken to test out the Galaxy AI tools for editing photos. Most of the time, the effects are sound. The following are some examples of what Edit Suggestions and Generative Edit can do for you.
#1. Before editing with generative
#2. After the Generic Edit
Take a look at this plate of nigiri that was ordered from a sushi restaurant. The main subject of the picture should have been the nigiri, but other plates were in the way and were hard to get rid of because of the table’s size. I used Generative Edit to get rid of the rice on the right side and the empty plate on the left.
Galaxy AI did an excellent job of fixing the picture, but it didn’t just fill in the blanks with a dark wooden surface like the rest of the table. It left some digital flaws behind. Still, it got rid of the parts of the picture that weren’t needed, which was the point.

#2. After the Generic Edit
My husband took this picture of me while we were waiting for dinner. Even though the picture was blurred in portrait mode, the servant was in the background when he took it. I took him out of the background using Generative Edit, and Galaxy AI filled it in with something I can’t figure out. There’s still something there, but you can’t say what it is.
#1. Before Making Changes
#2. Once you’ve made your changes
A squirrel was in the park the other day, and I love taking pictures of them. I took out my S24 and zoomed in to make sure I wouldn’t bother it while I took the picture. But the tree next to it cast a dark shade. I used the Edit Suggestion in Galaxy AI to get rid of the shadows, and it worked well. There are no longer any shadows on the grass or even the tree trunk. The squirrel also looks a little lighter. You could see the squirrel better now.

#2. After the Generic Edit
This picture shows a cute little place in the city. Enjoy the view and take it easy in this cute little spot. I took a picture of this little spot because I like the way it looks. I turned it around a bit and had Galaxy AI fill in the background. On the left, it made a random tree root, and on the right, it made more bushes. The only thing that makes you think the tree stem is AI is a small blurry spot in the brush next to it.

#2. Once you’ve made your changes
Finally, this is a picture I took while walking down my street at a beautiful sunset. Everything else is very dark because of the light from the sunset. It brightened up the deep blacks and shadows with the updated Edit Suggestion so you can see the sidewalk and cars far away.
Some edit suggestions can make a picture look better than it really is without a lot of extra work. It’s excellent for making minor changes to something before you share it on social media. If you want good results from the Generative Edit tool, you will have to put in a little more work.
At the moment, only Samsung Galaxy S24 devices can get Galaxy AI features like these picture editing tools. This includes the S24, the S24 Plus, and the S24 Ultra.
