Even though Windows 11 is the newest version, you might not think it’s the best OS that Microsoft has to give. That’s okay. Indeed, Windows 11 has experienced its share of issues and malfunctions. If you look at Windows 10 and Windows 11 side by side, you might like Windows 10 better. We can help you through the process of lowering if that’s the case.
Windows 11 keeps a copy of Windows 10 on your PC for ten days after you switch from Windows 10. This way, you can go back to it if you need to. If you switch from Windows 11 to Windows 10, keep in mind that you may need to reinstall some apps and games. You won’t be able to bring anything you saved on your PC back to Windows 10 from Windows 11.
The process of reverting Windows 11 to Windows 10.
Also, the first part of our guide only works if you just updated to Windows 11 10 days ago or less. If it has been ten days, we have some advice for you in the next part of this piece. Don’t worry if this all sounds scary. This is why we have a guide.
Step 1: To begin downgrading to Windows 10, navigate to the settings page in Windows 11. To access the menu or start a new game, hit the Windows Key and I simultaneously.
Step 2: Find Windows Update on the left and click on it. For the next few steps, you should be here. You may have noticed that Windows Update is where all the changes for software and devices are kept. You can also use it to make plans and even join the Windows Insider program. Now is not the time to think about those things; the next step will only be about Updating the past.
Step 3: Next, click on Update information in the middle of the screen. You should scroll down to see it. Once you get there, scroll down past the list of updates that have been loaded to find Recovery.
If you want to go back to Windows 10, you will need to use the backup that Windows 11 made, which you can find in Recovery. Again, remember that you can only go back if it’s been less than ten days since you upgraded to Windows 11. The choice is gone after ten days, and you’ll need to see a different choice at the end of our help.
Step 4: When you click the “Go back” button, Microsoft will ask you why you want to return to Windows 10. You may select any choice shown on the screen or type your answer. Your answer helps the people who are making Windows 11. When you’re done, click “Next” at the bottom.
It will then ask you if you want to see if there are any changes. Feel free to give these a try. They might help fix the issues you’re having, like AMD GPU speed issues. That should work. If not, you can go back and do what you did before and choose “No, thanks.”
When you click Next, Microsoft will let you know about the things we talked about at the beginning of this article that have to do with data. Also, don’t forget your password—you’ll need it to sign in to Windows 10. To be sure, click Next again.
Step 5: Click Next a few times. Windows 11 will then show you a button that says, “Go back to Windows 10.” Window 11 will work its magic if you pick this. Windows 10 will be put back on your PC by itself. It should take less than 5 minutes, but it depends on how fast your PC is to do it. There will be about two restarts of your PC. After each one, you will be back on your Windows 10 screen.
How to downgrade from Windows 11 in the past ten days
The way we talked about above won’t work if you upgraded to Windows 11 more than ten days ago. Something called a “clean install” of Windows is what you’ll need to do to get back to Windows 10. You will have to erase everything on your PC and start over, so make sure you have a copy of your files.
From your Windows 11 PC, navigate to Microsoft’s Windows 10 download page and search for the option that reads “Create Windows 10 installation media.” This is the easiest way to do it. Get the tool, open it, and then do what it says on the screen. Make sure you choose to upgrade this PC right now. To get Windows 10, follow the on-screen instructions. This will make your PC work like it did when it was first bought.
