Minecraft is a game that gets better over time. Many mods and developer support mean that you can enjoy building, mining, and dodging zombies in many different ways. You can even play Minecraft on a Chromebook, and no, it won’t damage your brand-new 2-in-1.
Can your Chromebook run Minecraft?
First, let’s make sure that your Chromebook has the right tools for running Minecraft. Only then will we go over the steps to accomplish this. If your Chromebook isn’t fast enough to run Minecraft, you won’t be able to play it directly, just like on a Windows computer. However, you can still stream Minecraft in some situations.
Here are the bare minimum needs for running Minecraft on Chrome OS:
Operating System: ChromeOS 111
System Architecture: 64-bit (x86_64, arm64-v8a)
Processor: AMD A4-9120C, Intel Celeron N4000, Intel 3865U, Intel i3-7130U, Intel m3-8100Y, Mediatek Kompanio 500 (MT8183), Qualcomm SC7180 or higher
Memory: 4 GB RAM or more
Storage: At least 1 GB for the game software, maps, and other files
If your computer meets these requirements but you’d like the game to run faster, Microsoft has a guide here on how to make Minecraft run better on Chromebooks.
How to play Minecraft on your Chromebook
To use Minecraft on your Chromebook, you’ll need to get it from the Play Store, set it up, and run it on your computer. How to do it.
Step 1: Make sure that your Chromebook has the most recent version of Chrome OS. If you need to, update it.
Step 2: Get Minecraft from the Play Store and set it up.
You can also get the free Minecraft Education version if you want to set up Minecraft on a school Chromebook for a project that needs to be done by the school.
Note: If the Play Store web store doesn’t show Minecraft as a game you can buy, try the Chromebook Play Store app. But if you still can’t see it, your device doesn’t meet the base system needs.

Step 3: Run the game from your Chromebook just like you would any other Android app. You should be able to use this version of Minecraft on your Chromebook, just like the Bedrock version you already know and love.
You will have to start over because you won’t be able to import worlds or saves from other games. However, there are two game modes: Create and Survival. You can also play with friends on Android, Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
Is there anything known wrong with Minecraft on Chromebook?
When you play Minecraft on a Chromebook, you should only run into a few bugs, but the game does have a few glitches now and then. As an example, a lot of players had trouble a few months ago when the game would freeze on the red Mojang start screen. Developers quickly fixed the problem with an update, which was great.
You should be able to enjoy Minecraft to the fullest if your Chromebook’s OS and tools are entirely up to date and you’ve set up the game so that it works best with your system. So, if there is a glitch, you’ll know it’s not your end of the matter.
Will there be a lag when I play Minecraft on my Chromebook?
You could. If that’s the case, you can make a number of changes to your Chromebook and Minecraft to make things better. First, make sure your Chromebook is fully turned off. Because the lid is so easy to close, it only goes into sleep mode and not entirely shuts down. You may need to restart your gear a few times to get rid of the dust. Second, make sure that your Chromebook doesn’t have too many tabs open and that the OS and tools are up to date.
Also, having a lot of saving space on your Chrome OS computer is a good thing. A few changes to Minecraft’s graphics settings can make the game run much faster. The game will probably go faster if the pictures are changed from “Fancy” to “Fast” and the draw distance is shortened.
